Running Is The Icing On The Cake!

It's been an amazing week of running. I am really on top of the world. Totally getting my butt kicked in PT and I am running every day! After 8 months of zero running, I am embracing every joyful moment of running. Running!! Me = I get to run!
Strengthening exercises, core work and dynamic exercises are the meat and potatoes of running.
Actual running is the freakin' icing on the cake...

This is awesome.

My therapist is really handing it to me. I went to PT yesterday and he had me running up and down the (super hot) hallway. Checking my form, having me sprint, having me run slow, then sprint again. Up and down, up and down...
Lunges, single leg squats, jumping. Up and down, up and down. I grunt, I groan, I look at him cross eyed when he tells me to do another set. (Seriously?). And then he gives it to me straight. "You are ready. You can do this. If you want to run 26.2 miles in less than 8 months, you've got to put in the WORK. I believe in you."

Work!

Gulp. I do another set of jumps and as the sweat is pouring down my face, I know I can do it.
Then he tells me I am ready to run 1 full mile on the track. Without stopping.
And if that feels good, then the next day run two miles.

It's the best news I have heard all YEAR. YES!!!

Miles for the month of August: 14

YTD Miles: 14!!!

I think the only thing better is when I get to start running on the trails and on the road. He wants to wait another week or two before I get to do that. The track is great, but running on a trail is where my heart is. Patience!! For now I'll take the track. I will love it and I will embrace it, because I get to run!

Hi everybody - I'm running!!

Friends, I encourage you to do the meat and potatoes. Go on a 1/2 mile warm up before your run. Perform some dynamic stretching ---> I will take some pics of what I have been doing.
Work on your planks and side planks. Do the squats and lunges. Do the jumping. Work on your form. Get a gait analysis done and make sure your shoes are best for the way you run.
Do the work.
Running is the icing on the cake!

I have a great article for you about dynamic stretching for runners:
Check it out HERE!

What else? What else is going on...

I stocked up on my favorite socks...

I roasted a chicken (stuffed with fresh thyme, carrots and apples - coat with olive oil, salt and pepper. Cook for 50-60 minutes.)

We spent a lot of time at the pool and beach this weekend. It was awesome.
I am running in the pool more. Even though I am running, it's not very much right now ---> so, I need to supplement my running with pool running and biking.
Sunday, I ran 1 hour in the pool before I did my run at the track...

The fam joined me and they had lots of fun playing with Daddy while I was aqua jogging...

We went to the beach that night for dinner and saw the most amazing sunset!!

I realized that whether you are a parent or not - we all have super busy lives. You gotta do what you gotta do to get the workout done. "If it really means that much to you, you'll find a way."

I am running two miles on the track today and I can't wait! I have to say, I am a little nervous. When I finished the one mile yesterday, I was winded and tired. I know it's all a process...

PS: Come back tomorrow, I am having an awesome GIVEAWAY that you are going to LOVE!!!

Do you go straight out for your run, or do you perform a warm up routine?
This is all new for me. I used to go straight out the door for my run. I would stretch afterwards!

What are you most looking forward to in September?
I can't wait to run on trails!!

Be well, run fast, take chances.

Happiness Is Running Life!

xo,
Natalie
